It’s all in the family.

It was a family affair on Lake Tawakoni for Brandi Dhane Holmes. She was fishing with her son Drake and husband Kennith Booger Holmes in The CatMasters February 26-27 event. Kennith owns and operates Boog’s Guide Service on lake Texoma, mainly for striped bass but with a certain affection for catching trophy catfish.

In fact, they won the first CatMaster event on Lake Texoma in January of 2020. Kennith and Drake teamed up with Timothy Cline to take the top spot in that event presented by SeaArk Boats and B’n’M Poles.

At Tawakoni, Brandi joined Kennith and Drake to make up the all family team. They brought 69.80 pounds to the scales on day one and added 153.36 pounds on day two. Their day two comeback gave them a total of 223.16 pounds. The total weight left them out of the money in 11th place but was good enough to give Brandi the Top Finishing Female award.

“We had big rain the night before,” recalled Brandi. “The rain got the creeks to running and the day started off misty and cool. We started in a creek arm of the lake and just worked our way to the back of the creek. We found a bunch of smaller fish in shallow water in the current.”

The team anchored on the fish that they found on Friday. The result was their first-day weight of almost 70 pounds. But they knew that the leaders on day one, Casey and Lowman, had 224 pounds and that Team Holmes would have to change their strategy.

“We decided to make a move and try something a little different the next morning,” reported Brandi. “The next day started with warmer temperatures and threatening rain so we just decided to stay fairly close to the ramp in case we had to hide from a storm. We decided to set an anchor in a little deeper water.”

The change in strategy paid off and they caught a whopping 153.36 pounds on day two. Their successful day moved them up the leader board to 11th place.

I enjoy fishing with my husband and son and spending quality family time together doing something we enjoy. We would like to thank Meathunter Rods and Team Catfish for their continued support in our tournament endeavors. And thanks to The Catmasters for putting on a great tournament!!”
